In my work, I blur the borders of time and space, challenging the role of memory in photography. I corral appropriated photographs containing voice, memory trace and visual likeness from many sources to create tableaux. I change history and narrative to my own liking, raising issues of personal identity and cultural norms. I digitally alter reality to profane the purpose of my photographic medium and it’s communicative task.
My father’s photographs are my starting point. By digitally extracting his people and merging them with mine in a neutral environment, I exchange his gaze with mine. I collaborate with him by retaining a sense of truth yet subverting the original context to my own fictional narrative. I manipulate characters and interiors as a young girl would with her paper dolls. Interested in a world of inconsistencies, I attempt to communicate truth through fiction.
