Beatrice - Much Ado About Nothing

Beatrice - Much Ado About Nothing

I like Beatrice because she's strong and puts on a great "need no man to be happy" facade. She's merry all the time with lots of smiles but there is more to her underneath. She's sensitive and loving with a great sense of humor. I hope to play her character some day.

Titania from Midsummer Night's Dream

Micaela

Titania - Midsummer Night’s Dream

Her first Shakespeare show in 4th grade she played this character.
"I love her because she knows what she wants and she goes for it.
She has all of this power over nature. I don’t have power over nature, and have very little power over my life but when I do I feel like a queen."

As Themselves

These are the compilation of images that I took of the girls attempt to give me no indication of their personality and character.

Wellesley Shakespeare Society

Continuing on with my theme of character studies this semester, specifically in costume, I approached the Shakespeare Society of Wellesley college to see if some of them would like to participate. I gave them the assignment to choose their favorite character, the one they most relate to or would like to have some of those qualities in their personalities which they don't already have. They could choose the costume, the makeup, the time period represented or any other facet that was important to them. They each had 20 minutes of photography time.

In addition to the in-costume character studies, I also took some non-expressive, more banal images of the girls in their regular clothing but sitting in the presidents chair of the society. They were told to keep their bodies from telling me anything about themselves, that their eyes were the only window to their soul. Facial expressions were discouraged. I enjoy viewing them both in contrast to each other and to their costumed characters.

The next entries will be about them.
